Let me first share my recommendations for the organizations awarding for excellence. In the first place, I would suggest all organizations that award excellence put more emphasis on the transparency of the selection process and inclusiveness. For example, clearly defined criteria, judging, and the ways of arriving at certain decisions enable communication and engender trust. Furthermore, I would also recommend awarding other classes of recipients who may not necessarily be the top performers but those who have made tremendous inroads or improvements in their sectors.
This notion does not just increase the scope of the significance of the rewards but also urges an increased number of stakeholders to aim for such achievements. Showcasing different winners and their distinct aspects of contribution can encourage more people, and the overall significance of the awards can be heightened, making the improvement of industries more competitive.

One piece of advice for organizations giving out awards is to focus on authenticity and relevance by tying the awards directly to meaningful achievements or contributions within the community or industry. If you are active in a niche, working actively with few partners only is worth more than having an entire roster of small-ticket sponsors.
We gave out awards to startups within our vertical. The awards were perceived as more valuable to the public, and they were more efficient to prepare for us when we teamed up with 1-2 partners only. The partners usually acted as amplifiers because they were invested themselves; thus, we could benefit more from their standing in the industry, which gave us more weight.
Every time we worked with mainly small-ticket sponsor partners, the amount of coordination and communication needed to onboard them was hardly worth the value they brought in.
Create a Meaningful and Lasting Experience
If I could give one piece of advice to organizations giving out awards, it would be to treat the entire process as an opportunity to create a meaningful and lasting experience. Recognition should go beyond the trophy—it's about telling a story that connects the organization's values with the achievements of the recipients.

From the way nominees are announced to how winners are honored, design each touchpoint to feel unique and intentional. Then, think about how the award can become a platform for growth. For example, pairing it with opportunities for mentorship, storytelling, or collaboration turns it into more than a moment of recognition—it becomes a tool for ongoing impact.
